About the apprenticeship

Duties

The manufacturing operation
This involves
Weighing of rubber polymers, fillers and other ingredients
Mixing the ingredients using either internal mixers or 2 roll mills
Finishing the mix by sheeting on a 2 roll mill, extruding or using other specialist equipment

Work is carried out on individual machines, or in small teams.

A wide variety of ingredients are handled. Overalls and safety footwear are provided, and must be worn at all times, together with personal protective equipment as appropriate for the various operations.

Additional information

A fully documented in-house training scheme is followed by all new recruits. Training starts as “second man” on one of the above operations, and assessments will continue until operators have achieved full competence in that area. Apprentices will work under the close supervision of section leaders and specific team members, to ensure their safety at all times and to learn the skills required from more experienced team members.

The Company aims to give all process workers basic training in weighing, mixing and finishing operations over a 2 year period, and the pay structure reflects this. However, the length of time individuals spend in a particular area will vary depending on operational requirements.

Requirements

Skills

Production is currently carried out between 6am and 6pm. Staff work 37hours per week, Monday to Friday, on a 4 or 5 day basis to cover these hours, with overtime as required. Apprentice hours will be agreed within these working days and will allow for all college support activity.

We believe passionately in the future of advanced manufacturing in the UK, and are seeking practical people who enjoy making technical products which are essential for life in the 21st century.
Manufacturing Operator Apprentices must have GCSE grades in maths and English (C-E) grades, must be physically fit and eventually confident to operate heavy machinery.
