Therapeutic Radiographer Advanced Practitioner - Gynaecological

The service is implementing site specific advanced practitioners into our radiotherapy workforce. This will be our second role Lung being the first site to be recruited to; with the aim to have all tumour sites with site specific advanced practitioners in 2021. We are excited to offer the second position to specialise in gynaecological radiotherapy.

The post holder will lead in the development of this role. The radiotherapy team is a patient centred multi-professional and enthusiastic team including the Radiotherapy managers, Consultant Therapeutic Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Team Leaders, Senior Therapeutic Radiographers, Therapeutic Radiographers, Radiotherapy Nurse Practitioners, Radiotherapy Clinical Support Workers and our booking team. Macmillan has adopted the entire radiotherapy team which will provide you with excellent resources for your role, CPD opportunities and access to funding. The department is based at the Queen's Centre at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham; a purpose built centre that has a range of facilities for our patients along with access to Macmillan services and our Living with and beyond team. The equipment profile of the service includes a Varian Halcyon, 3 Varian Truebeams and 2 Varian iX clinacs (with an imminent replacement with a second Halcyon), all of which have IGRT capabilities, 2 CT Siemens scanners and Varian Aria software.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to build good relationships with patients, families and colleagues within the radiotherapy service and wider MDT. The post holder must have a wide knowledge of gynaecological cancer and the modalities for treatment along with a good knowledge of future treatment regimes in radiotherapy (external beam and brachytherapy). They must also have evidence of post graduate qualifications or working towards M level studies. The post holder will be expected to pursue the MSc Apprenticeship degree (Sheffield Hallam University) if they have not already gained an MSc in a relevant subject. They must also demonstrate excellent technical skills and experience for this role.

They will be required to work the wider MDT on a wide range of technical and patient related issues. The post holder will also be expected to lead throughout the pathway from consent, contouring volumes and follow up clinics and actively record their patient reported outcomes. The collection of outcomes will be vital in evaluating our current treatment, developing and improving our service. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the whole radiotherapy team and with the specialist advanced practitioner roles to safely implement developments.

The post holder will be expected to maintain the clinical knowledge in pre-treatment and treatment delivery and verification. They will be part of the senior radiotherapy management team and expected to be a key leader for the multi-professional workforce in terms of routine clinical duties and their specialty role of gynaecological radiotherapy.
