These are exciting times and with the recent expansion and remodelling of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, opportunities have arisen for a Maternity Support Worker to join our Multi-Professional Team within the Birth centre in its deliverance of high quality care to our women and their families.

All of our staff work within our Trust Values; treating all women and their families with respect and compassion; providing high quality, safe effective care. As a team we are respectful of our colleague's views and work collaboratively to encourage innovation in all we do.

We are looking for experienced maternity support workers to work in our Birth Centre at UHL which was named as beacon site by the Midwifery Unit Network (MUNet) in 2018. We would like your help in supporting women and their families in a home-from-home environment.

We have beautiful spacious birthing rooms and your role will involve being supportive of both women and midwives. We have a small team of staff and rely on each other for help and support.

You must be:
  • Able to work independently providing care for low-risk women
  • An existing Band 3
  • Competent in providing infant feeding support
  • Keen to be part of a family-focussed maternity team and
  • You must have previous maternity/ paediatric experience to be considered for this role.

This role comprises working within a Multi - Professional Team delivering high quality care to women and their families. This will include providing care and support to postnatal women and their babies, phlebotomy, breastfeeding support and advice, and maintenance of essential equipment.

Working as a Maternity Support Worker enables you to gain exposure to a wide range of skills and offers extensive scope for professional development under the supervision of midwives. The Trust provides an extensive range of in-house training and support in ongoing professional development. Your personal development will be identified at your annual appraisal reviews and supported by your team leads and senior midwifery managers.

If you do not already hold a level 3 qualification or a level 5 foundation degree them you will be completing a nationally recognised Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in the area appropriate to your role, but will also gain paid valuable work experience in an environment where you can make a difference.
