During the first year of your apprenticeship you will attend college on a weekly basis, and when not at college you will work across the 4 main areas of our supply chain business in 6 month placements. Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you gain experience in the following areas:
  • Planning & Inventory Management
  • Strategic Sourcing
  • Operational Procurement
  • Logistics & Warehousing

As part of your apprenticeship you will learn how to do the following as part of your day to day job:
  • Place purchase orders with suppliers, utilising the business ERP system
  • Issue requests for quotations (RFQs) to suppliers and collate responses
  • Manage supplier order books and expedite deliveries
  • Understand and implement lean methodology

  • Enthusiasm for procurement and supply chain management
  • Demonstrates a strong aptitude for and interest in commercial and numerical based subject matter
  • Good communication skills


Personal qualities

  • Robust work ethic and willingness to take responsibility for personal, academic and vocational development


Desired qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher (or equivalent)
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade B/6 or higher
  • 3 A Levels at grade C or above or equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC at Merit or Distinction. (or predicted grades for those taking examinations in the summer)
  • Applicants with HNC/HND or Higher Level qualifications are also eligible for this training opportunity in commercial procurement


Future prospects

  • The aim of the apprenticeship is to prepare you for a permanent Procurement & Supply Chain role working as an Assistant Buyer within Defence Systems Technology.We are also committed to supporting further development of our ex-apprentices through further education and technical training


Things to consider

  • Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment
  • The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks
