This role would suit someone with a good level of experience in a senior role in a care setting. Ideally you will have your L3 Care and will undertake L4 Care whilst working within your role.

You will work alongside the Deputy manager, who will be your mentor whilst completing your apprenticeship programme, share office work and shift work within your weekly hours. Undertaking any tasks that the manager may request.

To provide a high standard of care to the residents, give support and guidance to staff team in providing a safe, efficient, homely environment within the guidelines and the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety Regulations. To assist in the evaluation of the methods of reaching the aims and objectives of the Home.

Key elements of the position:
  • To ensure that each resident receives the level of care appropriate to his or her needs in accordance with the aims and objectives of the home and in line with the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety
  • Assist the Manager and Deputy in their role when required, ensuring diversity in your roles in order to ensure staff and residents have the support they need
  • To ensure that the home is clean, tidy and running smoothly and efficiently
  • Jointly, with the Manager and Deputy, promote good personal and professional relationships between residents, relatives and staff
  • Oversee client care and well-being, ensuring care plan reviews are completed monthly and all relevant information required to meet the individual client's needs are met
  • With support from deputy and staff, ensure the six-step programme is kept up to date with the required information required to meet the individual residents' needs and wishes
  • Assist in the Management of the medication ordering etc and ensuring regular auditing is completed. Support the team in using the emar system effectively, booking in and returning meds
  • Help Enforce Champions roles and support carers to gain confidence in their chosen role, Infection Control, EOL, Medication, Health and Safety, Laundry, Activities, Falls, Skin Integrity, and help maintain good practice by auditing these regularly to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Meet with management team regularly to update on care needs, any needs or requests
  • Be available to on call duty to support and advise staff in the Manager or Deputy's absence
  • Work some shifts on the floor with the staff to led by example
  • Attend monthly online sessions with your Trainer and complete the coursework set

Residential Care:
  • Promote and ensure a high standard of order in the Home and an atmosphere suitable for the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the residents
  • Participate in the work of the home, to give total care to the residents ensuring that the care plans are up to date, and person centred from their arrival. Ensuring a Mental Capacity assessment is completed on admission
  • Maintain personal direct contact with individual residents and relatives
  • Maintain full communication with GP's and all other agencies involved in resident care
  • Ensure the appropriate provision of care necessary to promote the wellbeing of residents, (to include, relatives, GP, District Nurse, Social Workers and any other professional agencies involved)
  • Actively encourage the independence of the residents though choice of lifestyle(Person Centred Care)
  • Encourage the residents to participate in activities both within the home and in the local community
  • Ensure consent has been documented by all clients or advice Emma if a best interest is required
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to the management immediately, and ensure that procedures are followed by all until necessary

Staff:
  • Be responsible for the delegation of Keyworkers and ensure all staff are aware of their role and evidenced
  • Be jointly responsible for the regular reviews of care plans producing a rota system for carers to help to complete this
  • Take responsibility to seek and receive regular supervision for self
  • Participate in regular staff meetings
  • Help to maintain good morale in the home and promote sound organisation, fair and clear staff relationships and good communications
  • Be aware of the needs of the staff team within the home, referring them to those best able to help in areas outside of your job role
  • Provide a newsletter or memo monthly for staff regarding any problem areas regarding infection control and care planning

Administration:
  • To assist the Deputy in maintaining Best Interests and MCA documentation is accurate
  • Take responsibility in the absence of the Deputy for any complaints received, taking the appropriate action and reporting to the necessary personnel in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Ensure relevant handover procedures are observed
  • Participate in the reception of residents when necessary, taking care to complete relevant documentation required
  • Participate in compiling care plans, risk assessments and monthly care plan reviews and reporting any changes to staff team

Education/Personnel:
  • Assist in the absence of the Deputy in the induction of new members of staff
  • Attend mandatory training as necessary in line with legislative requirements
  • Complete your Care L4 over a 12-18-month period (dependant on level)
  • Attend monthly on-line sessions with your Trainer and complete the coursework set

Health & Safety:
  • Ensure the home is a safe environment for residents and visitors
  • Be aware the Health and Safety Policy, ensuring that related procedures are carried out correctly, report and record all accidents to residents, staff and visitors
