This is a great opportunity to work in a small and supportive team at the University of Oxford 'Testing for COVID-19: Early Alert Service (EAS)' which has been established across two sites, to ensure that the University remains open to both teach its students and to undertake its renowned world leading research and we believe you may have the skills and expertise that can match this area and would like to offer you to express your interest.

The University's in-house COVID-19 testing service has been implemented to protect staff and students of the University and colleges, providing rapid access to free testing for those with coronavirus symptoms. The EAS service covers 45,000 students and staff, working in collaboration with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to provide a service that aligns to NHS and PHE requirements.

The role

We are looking for qualified, flexible and compassionate nurses with excellent communication skills. Previous experience and knowledge in related speciality will be an advantage. You will be required to work and participate in the delivery of Early Alert Service, in adherence to NHS England, Public Health England and local guidance and advice.

Work collaboratively and co - operatively with others to meet the needs of service users.

Who are we looking for?

To apply, all we ask is that you will:
  • Have a minimum of 6 months paid experience at Band 5 level in an Acute hospital environment within the last 2 years
  • Comply with NMC Professional Registration and keep up to date with current nursing practices
  • Current clinical experience of working within the NHS, a community, practice, or public health setting.
  • Experience of prioritising and working in a pressured clinical working environment
  • Good communication skills, (written and verbal) and dealing with sensitive issues relating to clinical practice
  • Awareness of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its application within a clinical patient setting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What you will be doing?

You will be working in the Covid-19 Early Alert Service, meaning that you can bring your vital skills to the fight and play your part, where you will:
  • Attend to the individuals in each testing unit during clinical sessions with support from senior nurses and experienced infectious diseases clinicians and GP's.
  • Work as a member of the three-person team who will be employed for each clinical session, as required
  • Be prepared to attend to patient requiring testing for Covid including obtaining specimens through swabbing
  • Ensure each test unit is in an appropriate state of cleanliness prior to each clinical session.
  • Adhere to the SOP quality standards for each of the three functions that will be undertaken in each testing unit i.e.
  • Meet, greet and register patients and prepare patient specific labels for the testing service at the OUH
  • Perform oral and nasal swabbing
  • Provide safety netting advice to patients (after training)
  • Abide by the policies, standard operating procedures and other departmental directives for the testing units.
  • Establish close effective working relationships with the Senior nurse and the Nurse Team Leader
  • Work closely with the Early Alert Service - COVID19 Testing responsible clinicians, in providing best experience to patients.
  • Participate in effective data collection on all clinical sessions including regular staff activity and capacity as requested by the senior nurse.
  • Be responsible for the opening and secure closing of the testing units before and after each session.
  • Have the ability to use basic IT systems required in delivery of service.
