An exciting opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and motivated people to work within the Acute Occupational Therapy Teams at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd as a Band 2 Apprentice Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner. This post is an Annex 21 post. One within the Physical Health team and one within the Mental Health team.

Physical Health Team - Occupational Therapy

This post is 22.5 hours per week based within Glan Clwyd Hospital covering a range of acute areas and wards, 2 years fixed term. You will be working towards an apprenticeship framework, which includes Level 3 Diploma Health and Social Care The salary is based on Annex 21(see attached within the additional documents) and is calculated on a percentage of the band 2 pay, taking into account learning on the job.

You will be working alongside Occupational Therapists as part of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate safe and timely hospital discharges. The focus of this role is to support the rehabilitation and recovery of people presenting with a wide range of acute health conditions i.e. falls, respiratory and cardiac conditions. It could involve working in the accident and emergency department, on the acute wards and occasionally in patients own homes.

You will be completing personal care practice; mobility and transfer practice; and demonstrating and fitting assistive equipment. The post holder must be able to communicate effectively on the phone as well as in person. There will also be various administration tasks involved on a day-to-day basis. Computer proficiency is needed as documentation is electronic and equipment is ordering is via an electronic system.

This successful applicant will be an integral part the Occupational Therapy team and have an essential role in supporting the delivery of the Occupational Therapy service.

Following your apprenticeship there will be opportunities to apply for Bank Band 3 positions within the Occupational Therapy service and permanent Band 3 posts as they arise.

Mental Health Team - Occupational Therapy

This post will be based at the Ablett Unit, as a Band 2 Apprentice Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner. The Ablett unit is based on the Glan Clwyd site and is the Acute Mental Health Inpatient unit.

This post is 22.5 hours per week, 2 years fixed term. You will be working towards an apprenticeship framework, which includes Level 3 Diploma Health and Social Care The salary is based on Annex 21(see attached within the additional documents) and is calculated on a percentage of the band 2 pay, taking into account learning on the job.

You will be working alongside Occupational Therapists as part of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate safe and timely hospital discharges. The focus of this role is to apply a rehabilitation and recovery focused approach on the wards. This will include completing personal care practice, activities of daily living practice, group work, community visits and supporting patients in developing positive coping strategies. The post holder must have excellent communicating skills. There will be various administration tasks and computer proficiency is required.

This post is an integral part the Occupational Therapy team and is essential to support the delivery of the Occupational Therapy service provided to patients in this setting. You will work in both adult and older adult services within the unit.

Following your apprenticeship there will be opportunities to apply for Bank Band 3 positions within the Occupational Therapy service and permanent Band 3 posts as they arise.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
