Health Education England - north east and north Cumbria

Clinical Fellow Scheme (Leadership/Management Fellows) 2021/2022

To commence: August 2021

Duration: 12 months

Post Numbers: Maximum of 3 (Subject to change)

Health Education England - working across the north east and north Cumbria, working in partnership with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) and the North East's Lead Employer Trust (NE LET), are delighted to offer another clinical fellow scheme to enthusiastic and motivated trainees with an interest in leadership, management or clinical informatics and those who are interested in learning more about these areas. The north east and north Cumbria has high standards of postgraduate medical training, as defined by trainee feedback and results of the GMC survey and is committed to enhancing the training and educational experiences available for junior doctors.

Clinical Fellows will work in an apprenticeship model to the Postgraduate Dean, Professor Namita Kumar and other senior personnel across the region. There will be an opportunity to develop a range of skills whilst participating in one or more of the following key work streams:
  • Recruitment
  • Trainee engagement & communication
  • Policy development
  • International schemes
  • Professionalism
  • Digital Health/Clinical informatics
  • Teaching & Quality improvement
  • Supported Return to Training (SuppoRTT)
  • NHS Trust Leadership & Management

Fellows will complete a specific project encompassing one or more of these themes. The programme offers trainees the opportunity to have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, and education and training, and work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations.

One post will offer the opportunity for experience at both HEE NE and with the Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust CEO-led Leadership & Management team, working across both sites.

All successful candidates will be given a comprehensive induction programme preparing fellows for their year ahead and funding/study leave will be available to undertake a relevant postgraduate qualification which could be a Postgraduate Certificate or Masters in Leadership.

The programme offers flexible opportunities to develop a portfolio of skills and experience that will benefit future consultant / GP posts and leadership roles and build a profile as a future clinical leader. This scheme will suit trainees who are willing to work in uncertain environments across traditional boundaries and relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require current Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the current Resident Labour Market Test which will be in place until the end of December 2020. UK Visas and Immigration requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, have had to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) are also subject to this requirement.
