We are looking for motivated Health Care Support Workers to join our dynamic team on MEAU (Medical Emergency Assessment Unit). Our unit has 40 beds and takes referrals from a number of sources including A&E, GP, Clinics and ECP's with an average of 900 patients being assessed and treated each month.

MEAU is a busy, acute environment with a high turnover of patients, which can create rapidly changing clinical situations. We see patients with a wide range of acute and complex conditions, which include critically unwell patients.

As a Health Care Support Worker, you will be responsible for working under delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse in delivering a high standard of care to our patients in accordance with individualised care needs, utilising flexible, innovative and effective practice that demonstrates that our patients are at the centre of everything we do.

Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be adaptable to rapidly changing situations, as well as having understanding of the need for confidentiality. The individual should have the ability to work using their own initiative and as part of a team. Good time management and organisational skills are also essential for the post. Effective communication skills and motivation to work in a clinical environment are essential.

As a substantive member of the healthcare team, you will be required to complete The Care Certificate unless the successful applicant has NVQ level 3. It is expected that all staff employed into the role of substantive Health Care Support Worker will complete this element of the qualification within the first twelve weeks of employment. Full support from a dedicated apprenticeship team, will be provided to achieve this.

Successful substantive Healthcare Support Workers will also benefit from further training opportunities which form part of the ULHT Nursing Career Development Pathway which can ultimately lead to becoming a Registered Nurse.

Applications from applicants who meet the current criteria for Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome (where both the role and candidate are deemed suitable for a Tier 2 visa) and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
