What is the purpose of the role?
Joining our engineering team, you'll undergo a formal Level 6 apprenticeship in engineering through workplace learning. You'll study for a degree in engineering by day release at Newbury college. The role will be part of an industry leading Asset Engineering Team in Thames Water. Apprentices will be part of the Mechanical and Electrical discipline teams that help Thames Water achieve its Asset Management Planning (AMP7) ambitions to 2025 and beyond. Apprentices will learn on the job and with targeted training courses with direction and support from senior engineering personnel.

What will this role involve?
As an apprentice you will undertake a development programme and will be expected to undertake different 3-6-month placement rotations in other parts of Thames Waters' business to equip you with a broad range of skills and experiences needed for a successful career.
This team has apprenticeship opportunities available are in Reading, Berks, you'll get the most from your work here if you're happy to visit a variety of sites and gain experience of multiple processes.
What are we looking for?
Entry requirements for this Level 6 qualification are 5 GCSE's grade C or above in English, Maths, Science, technology or an engineering or related subject and 3 A Levels, Grade C or above (or predicted grades) to include Maths, Science, technology or an engineering related subject. Please note that if you already have an Engineering degree you will not be eligible for this apprenticeship.
While qualifications are important, it's also essential you have a passion for engineering and the drive and motivation to manage your learning and working life. You'll need to be incredibly well organised, have excellent time management skills and the determination to succeed.You'll have great team working skills but also be able to work independently, putting customers at the heart of everything you do.You'll be a champion for Health and Safety within the workplace for both you and your colleagues, helping us maintain our great reputation.

- Application of engineering design principles to water and wastewater treatment plants and water and wastewater pipeline networks
- Use of engineering design and modelling software
- Assistance with site asset surveys and asset condition assessments
- Writing technical reports, specifications, technical schedules and datasheets
- Assistance with equipment and process selection assessment
- Assistance with the development of CAD drawings and models
- Analysis of plant operation data to inform investment needs
- Assistance with concept and feasibility design studies
