These roles will involve learning various aspects of engineering design within an office environment from producing engineering drawings using Auto-CAD and modelling software to assisting engineers throughout the design process.

Minimum of five GCSEs graded at C/4, equivalentor above including English and mathsplus two ALevels or BTEC qualification or relevant professional experience will also be considered.
Maths or Sciences at A level/BTEC or equivalent is an advantage.
Applicants not formally meeting the entry requirements above may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Future prospects
We hope to offer apprentices a full-time position at the end of their training. Currently we have a number of people studying degree apprenticeships. Opportunities for further professional development are actively encouraged at MJA.
Things to consider
The role is office based and will involve mainly working on a PC (with appropriate breaks).
Applicants will need to be able to travel from Abingdon to Coventry on a weekly basis to attend college, either by car or train. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
The key areas involved are as follows:
- Using Auto-CAD to produce engineering layouts and details for housing developers to build from
- Calculating areas and levels for development sites
- Working on house plans, and apartments to draw up foundations and superstructures
- Detailing drainage for houses and roads
- Drawing up of details for on-site construction
- Working with standards and details
- Uploading and managing document issues
- Producing sales packs for developers
- Working with engineers and technicians across the business
- Working alongside engineers to achieve technical approvals with statutory bodies
- General office admin to include, folding of engineering drawings, photocopying, scanning and filing

The successful candidates will:
- Be able to demonstrate strong IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, with the confidence to pick up new IT packages quickly with support
- Enjoy problem solving
- Be able to demonstrate good attention to detail
- Have good organisational skills and the ability to work with others are also important

Candidates should:
- Be self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-moving office environment
- Have acommitment to continued education and improvement through on the job training and day release is essential
- Have an enquiring mind and be comfortable asking questions to check your understanding as needed
