Job Details

Is full time study not your thing? But not sure what job to do? Do you want to earn money and still gain some extra qualifications? Keen to stay local to Manchester?

At Essity we manufacture and sell products that are used every day, we break taboos and challenge convention, all with the intention of breaking down barriers to health and well-being globally.

We own and manufacture many leading brands. Cushelle toilet tissue, Plenty kitchen roll and TORK are three of our leading tissue brands, all manufactured in the UK for use in the home and industry.

We want you to help us maintain production for the future and create new innovative ways of working. Join us as a Manufacturing Process Apprentice and you will gain the skills to make a positive contribution to our business and reach your full potential.

About the role

You may be surprised how involved and challenging our papermaking process is. Our paper machines are larger than a jumbo jet, and the machine speed is faster than the motorway speed limit.

Join Essity as a Manufacturing Process Apprentice at our Trafford Park site and you will have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to contribute to our manufacturing processes. With a strong history of recruiting and developing apprentices, you will join an experienced team with a passion for coaching new members of the team.

What you will do

Over two years you will follow the Engineering Operative standard which includes a level 2 qualification in Performing Engineering Operations and Business Improvement Techniques, as well as industry specific papermaking qualifications. These courses will be undertaken whilst working on-the-job and in block release training events. Throughout the programme you will have the support of a dedicated assessor.  You will also study modules in Essity’s global Manufacturing Academy, a bespoke training programme.

Your work-based learning will focus on:

  • how to operate the machinery both effectively and safely
  • understanding key manufacturing systems, including an awareness of production costs.
  • how to undertake maintenance of the machine including some mechanical responsibilities
  • completing audits
  • how to ensure production meets quality standards
  •

On completion of your apprenticeship, you will be ready for a manufacturing operations role.

Who are you?

We would love to hear from you if you can show the following;

  • A minimum of GCSE grade 3/D (predicted or already achieved) in maths, English (and also preferably in science)
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • You can complete small projects with quality and speed (could be linked to a hobby or school-based assignment)
  • You can solve problems from information that you have pulled together yourself
  • You can communicate and work well with others
  • You like to challenge yourself and prove to yourself you can achieve things
  •

THIS ROLE WILL START IN SEPTEMBER 2021

You'll need to be 18 years old to be considered for this apprenticeship due to the requirement to work shifts.  The shift pattern is planned, and you will be working 4 x 12-hours shifts (2-days and 2 nights) followed by 6 days off-shift.

What we can offer you

In return we offer an excellent starting salary (above the national minimum apprentice wage), plus annual bonus opportunity, competitive pension scheme, health cash plan, workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Apply now so you don’t lose out on this great opportunity.
