Occupational Therapy Assistant - Band 3

We are looking for 3 Occupational Therapy Assistants to join the Occupational Therapy Team based at Langdon Hospital, in Dawlish.

The role is dynamic and challenging. An opportunity to apply an occupational perspective when meeting individual's goals and to provide meaningful recovery focused activities/interventions. We are seeking motivated and innovative individuals who wish to contribute to the mental health care of people with secure services and welcome applications from both experienced and new individuals. Langdon Hospital provides specialist forensic mental health services for up to 110 men in the South West of England, there are exciting plans to develop the service further and you could be part of these exciting plans.

The roles may be allocated to a medium secure unit and required to be rotational across all wards on the Langdon site. Candidates will be required to work a flexible work pattern to support the service needs this will include weekend working.

About you

You will support and assist the qualified Occupational Therapists and the wider Clinical Team. The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to plan and facilitate therapeutic activities on and off the ward according to patients' needs. You may also, at times, carry out individual interventions on site, in the community and in people's homes, as directed by qualified staff. A qualification in Health & Social Care Level 3 QCF or equivalent experience is desirable and you will need to demonstrate that you are able to use a varied range of communication styles to engage patients in one to one and group activities. Due to the nature of the role the ideal candidate will need to have proficient IT skills as they will be required on a regular basis to facilitate online sessions with patients.

The ideal candidate will need to adapt to the service needs as required whilst meeting individuals goals and supporting the patients recovery.

If you do not hold a QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, an equivalent qualification, or the Care Certificate - you will need to complete the Care Certificate within 3 months of commencement of the Band 3 post.

If you have a minimum of 6 months experience in the last 2 years working in a care role, but do not hold the Care Certificate you can complete the form "Care Certificate Evidence Document" from the additional documentation list to evidence that this experience is equivalent to the 15 standards as set out within the Care Certificate. You will need to take this completed form to interview where it will be reviewed by the appointing manager and if you meet the criteria, the manager can approve this in place of completing the Care Certificate.

We will also offer entry onto our Apprenticeship programme to initially undertake the Level 3 in Health & Social Care, this open to applications every 6 months. Secure Services

We are based at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish and have 3 Local Delivery Units (LDUs); the Prison Cluster, Inpatient and Community.

The Directorate supports people who, as a result of their mental health issues, have had contact with the legal system and need a safe and secure environment that enables them to receive a wide range of treatments, therapies and care to help them recover. This includes contact within Liaison and Diversion services; assessment and treatment within our 3 Devon prisons; secure inpatient care and discharge into the community.
