NHS North of England Commissioning Support (NECS) works across the UK and internationally, to support health and social care customers in meeting their strategic and operational challenges; improving outcomes and increasing efficiency - more important now than ever.

An exciting opportunity is now available to join us in (a) newly created Apprenticeship post(s) in the Cervical Screening Administration Service (CSAS) team.

CSAS is a crucial component within the wider national screening programme. We are responsible for ensuring thateveryone across England and beyond who are eligible to take part in the national cervical screening programme are invited for tests at the appropriate times. We also process all test results, maintain all screening records on the national screening database and support delivery of national initiatives aimed at improving the effectiveness of the screening programme. This is a fast-paced environment, with approximately 100 team members.

We are looking for passionate and talented individuals to join our team Screening Officers to support our existing team. Reporting to one of our Team Managers you will play a key role in supporting the prevention of Cervical Cancer.

Our Apprenticeship development program offers an exciting opportunity for you to gain exposure to the field whilst supporting you along the way with brilliant levels of training and development.

The two year programme is designed to ensure you're exposed to a range of work experiences and skill development opportunities.

What to expect:

Year 1 of the programme will start with an induction to introduce you to, and help you understand the wider NHS and NECS in particular.


Your development will not only include fantastic practical opportunities, you'll undertake an NVQ L3 Customer Service qualification.

Roles and Responsibilities

You'll need to be able to quickly build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You'll be provided with a high level of support, working with a team to ensure success in your new role and motivation for you to achieve your career ambitions, guaranteeing that you never feel you're on your own.

Support will come from a variety of sources including your line manager, a mentor and fellow apprentice programme peers.

You'll need:
  • Good standard of general education - 5 GCSE or equivalent including Mathematics & English or equivalent experience
  • Experience of using Microsoft office systems including Word, Excel

(The person specification outlines the NVQ L3 as an essential requirement but as you will be undertaking the apprenticeship qualification this is what you will be working towards - this is reflected in the training element of the salary)
