As a Quantity Surveyor your work is crucial within a project team as one of the biggest challenges our network faces are upgrading an infrastructure which dates back to 1863 whilst continuing to run an efficient service. As we look to modernise our assets, you'll be involved in projects which extend our network,improve our stations to enhance station capacity, purchasing new trains and buses to enhance customer experience, improving the reliability of the network via technology updates, reducing times between services and developing new entrances in stations to reduce congestion and support London's population. As an apprentice, yourdevelopment programme will be made up of up to7placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone's career is different, so everyapprentice's journey is unique. Here's an idea of what yours could look like:

Year 1:

Placement1 -Road Improvements - Surface Directorate-6 months-Reviewing a feasibility report on changing a section of London road to a pedestrian route only, Creating acostplan andbudget to understand if these works are a business priority, engaginganexpertengineer to check the influence of removing a road from the London network.

Placement 2 -Procurement Team - Commercial and Finance Directorate-6 months-Writing a procurement strategy for new signalling equipment on the Metropolitanline,undertakingearly market engagement and checking what technology improvements are available, Writing an 'invitation totender', commencing a procurement and advertising the worksto potential bidders.

Year 2:

Placement 1-Accessibility Programme- 6 months-Reviewing and negotiating change viacontractadmin. Reviewing andapproving month applications. Cost reporting and forecasting.

Placement 2 -Track Maintenance - Operations Directorate-6 months-Reviewing a train requirement after technical inspection,placingan order to repair a part/section of track on our network,payingacontractor who has completed the works or repairs.

After your first 2 years on the scheme, the 6 monthly placements will move to yearly placements which will allow you totailor and choose placements based onpreferred specialism.

Personal qualities

We're looking for potential in all of our apprentices. We are looking for somebody who can demonstrate our behaviours which are Active, Accountable, Direct, Fair and Consistent and Collaborative.

Desired qualifications

A minimum of5 GCSE's Grade A* - Cor Grade 9-4 and aboveincluding maths and English language (or equivalents).Plus, a minimum of three A levels at A* - Cor equivalent.

You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.

Future prospects

On completion of your Level6apprenticeship, you will gaina Degree in Quantity Surveying along withan accreditationandfull Professional Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). Apprentices tend to become Commercial Managers orSenior Commercial Managers.

The skills you develop during your apprenticeship are highly transferrable to specialisms including Project Management, Dispute and Dispute Resolution Professionals, Forensic Planning and Cost Analysis, Contract Administration and opening your own practice.

MRICS status isworldwide - not just UK based making this a truly international opportunity.

Things to consider

You must be18 years of age by 6th September 2021 or over to be eligible for this scheme due to due to Health and Safety requirements.
