What will the apprentice be doing?

A key element of our work is to develop policies that will support the Government's objective to improve the environment for current generations and to leave it in a better state than we inherited.

These might include providing support in Ministerial private office, working with analytical professionals to develop evidence-based advice, writing briefings for your minister to answer Parliamentary Questions, or engaging with stakeholders across industry and within communities.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The formal elements of the apprenticeship are provided through a blend of online learning and virtual classroom tuition and typically takes 24 months to complete.

In parallel with this you will also be learning on the job, and capturing evidence of how you have practically applied the skills and knowledge you have gained. This will form your 'Evidence Portfolio' which will be reviewed as part of the formal 'End Point Assessment' at the end of the apprenticeship.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion of your apprenticeship you will have the equivalent of an HNC qualification and will have laid the foundations for an ongoing career in 'policy' within any civil service department.
