One of the primary functions of the purchasing department is to ensure continuity of supply through the timely sourcing of both materials and services from the supply chain. These materials and services can be sourced as single purchases or more complex contracts. They can be for either direct materials, or for indirect requirements which are essential for the overall operation of the business. The Buyer is responsible for ensuring continuity of supply for a wide range of the above-mentioned products and services whilst also being challenged by the changing demands of the business.
The successful candidate must have a brief understanding of the supply chain function and what working within the supply chain entails. They must also have a strong commitment to their development and learning, whether that be on the job or through college.

Duties and responsibilities will incude:
- Ensuring continuity of supply through various methods of expediting.
- To be responsible for the daily back to back purchasing of items required for customer's orders ensuring stock is bought at the right price and delivered on time
- Process Request for Quotations
- Regularly liaise with and update the Sales team and Warehouse as to the expected delivery dates of goods
- Liaise with suppliers, Warehouse and Accounts regarding delivery and invoice discrepancies
- Using the MRP system to be operationally effective to ensure stock control is maintained, improved and that timelines are met
- Develop and maintain relationships across the supply base with new and existing suppliers to ensure that requirements are met, best terms are achieved (such as service levels and delivery) and cost savings are made wherever possible
- Work towards an appropriate set of departmental KPIs
- Promote and maintain Dixon as a preferred customer to all suppliers
- Promote the ethos of Purchasing as a service department, seek to meet and exceed our customer expectations
