About the apprenticeship

Duties

You will shadow a fully qualified member of the company to learn the skills and methods needed to complete your apprenticeship. Duties will include learning how to safely perform servicing and maintenance on various makes and models of light vehicles, e.g. cars. You will be involved in replacing components such as brakes/tyres/lights, general system checks around fluids and electrics, as well as any other tasks required e.g. maintaining a clean and tidy work area in line with health & safety working practices.

Additional information

Before applying for this position please ensure you are able to travel to and from the place of employment in Cardiff and to the XR Training Centre in Pyle once a week. You will be employed full-time as an Apprentice Car Mechanic by this company based in Cardiff. You will be enrolled onto a level 2 foundation apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Maintenance, and undertake the following qualifications:
- VCQ Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence
- VRQ Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles (Motor Vehicle 4270/4290 Series)
- Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy level 1

Candidates must be reliable and trustworthy.
Candidates must be flexible with hours worked.
Must be able to work with others as a part of a team.
Must be able to follow instructions and ask for guidance when necessary.
Candidates should be enthusiastic and committed to both the job and the training.
Prior experience (as a hobby or formal training) of working on cars desirable but not essential.
Ability to drive is desirable but not essential, as long as candidate is prepared to travel back and forth to the XR Training Centre in Pyle and the place of employment.
Must recognise the importance of attending XR Training once a week in order to achieve qualifications in a timely manner.

Qualifications

GCSEs in Maths and English, no minimum grade requirement.
