Learning Technologies Advisor

We are looking for a Learning Technologies Advisor to join the fast-paced and innovative Technology Enhanced Learning Team, supporting the Directorate of Education, Research and Innovation (DERI). Our team is diverse and friendly and puts helping others at the heart of all we do. This position will involve supporting the users of our Education Centres in the use of learning technologies and managing the AV equipment, resources and other technological assets used within the department. The post-holder will also work 1-2-1 or in small groups to demonstrate the use of Microsoft Office to staff across the organisation.

The successful candidate will work full time (37.5 hours) and will be needed to be able to work inside 'Core Hours' of Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm. It is essential that you can work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and can respond quickly to change. This position will require attendance to both Burnley and Blackburn sites but agile working, including home working, may be possible depending on circumstances.

You will need a problem-solving, customer-focussed attitude and experience working with PCs, laptops and AV equipment. You will be interacting face-to-face and electronically with all levels of staff including subject matter experts, and will need to be able to remain calm in time-pressured environments.

This is an exciting opportunity that incorporates a wide variety of duties, some of which are:
  • To assist staff with the use of technical equipment in the Education Centres rooms, including Audio-Visual Aids (AVA), iBoards, Promethean Boards, and other ICT equipment and peripherals.
  • To make suggestions on how specialist ICT software/hardware, e.g. Camtasia, You Tube videos Virtual Classroom (Webex), Swivl etc. could be used throughout the Trust.
  • To provide support in the use of Microsoft Office, including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher etc. from basic to advanced level.
  • To work with college partnerships and the Work Based Learning Team, helping to align IT Training to apprenticeship pathways.
  • To update the Education Centres equipment asset register advising when equipment is replaced or for audit purposes.
  • To attend meetings to present, promote and train in the use of educational technology and disseminate information to Divisions as required.
  • To assist with the marketing of the use of educational technologies, using Oli, Twitter & Facebook to advertise when these are used.

It is essential you have at least level 2 functional skills in Maths and English, are well-versed in the use of Microsoft Office Applications, and are not daunted by the pace of change that comes with working in a technology-centric environment.

Experience of working in a similar setting, creating digital media content (ideally educational), is essential to this role, as is an interest in how technology can assist learning.

The salary advertised is for 37.5 hours pw. Salaries will be pro-rata if the hours are less than this. For posts on AfC payscales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point.

Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS)

If the role you are applying for is identified as either controlled or regulated activity as defined in in the Safeguarding vulnerable Groups Act (2006) any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory DBS check being obtained.

The Healthcare sector is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

In line with other NHS trusts, the DBS check charge is paid by the successful candidate who has been offered the post. Candidates can choose to pay this over 1-3 months as a salary deduction. The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £44.00 and for a Standard Disclosure £27.00 which includes a small handling fee.
