Job Purpose:

Assist in maintaining and enhancing the sustainability performance of Berkeley Homes (Southern) by assessing projects and supporting the business as part of a wider team to ensure that The Berkeley Group progresses towards its aim of being one of the UK's most sustainable businesses.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

* Carry out site visits every 6 weeks to assess performance of site sustainability and Our Vision. Ensure teams' compliance with the in-house sustainability management system and make recommendations for improvement.

* Ensure meter readings and fuel tickets are recorded for each site, office and marketing suites on a monthly basis.

* Collate, analyse and report Quarterly KPI data (such as waste volumes, utility use and legal completions) to enable the assessment of performance against sustainability targets;

* Assist the business in the completion of the Our Vision commitments.

* Assist in providing briefings to all staff on sustainability and the process for their role;

* Assist in providing sustainability advice to the teams throughout the development process from land buying to design, the purchase of goods and services and build, through to sales and customer service;

* Keep up-to-date with the sustainability agenda, new legislation and best practice guidelines and understand how they may affect the company

* Research sustainable innovation and report back on these to the team.

* Prepare guidance to assist project teams in managing sustainability;

* Ensure you are familiar with the Sustainability Management System and provide suggestions for improvement.

* Communicate performance to all members of staff with regular updates;

* Work as part of the Berkeley Group's Operational Sustainability Forum to drive good practice and implement commitments;

* Sit on Berkeley Group Sustainability Working Groups and Committees as required;

* Communicate best practice and introduce new initiatives to drive sustainability performance;

* Compile written reports and data to communicate sustainability performance.

Technical Competencies

* Full Driving License

Person Specification:

* Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

* Confidence in influencing and working with people at all levels in an organisation

* Good knowledge of sustainability issues, preferably within the construction/house building industry

* A broad view of sustainability, focussing not only on environmental issues, but also the relative importance of social and economic impacts of our activities

Please note our standard working hours are 8am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday
