What does the Vertex Finance Graduate Scheme offer?
The Vertex International Financial Team is integral to delivering Vertex's mission of creating transformative medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases.You will be working as part of a dynamic and diverse organisation alongside outstanding people who are forward thinking, collaborative and recognised leaders in their areas. The individuals will report into an experienced Finance Manager in Vertex's International Headquarters in Paddington, London.
You will be part of Vertex's three-year Level 7 apprenticeship scheme.During your apprenticeship programme you'll be supported through your CIMA studies, with paid leave and the breadth of experience you'll need for the practical requirements of the qualification..The scheme is 3 years in duration, during which time the successful candidate will be able to work in three challenging roles and participate in projects and/or process improvement initiatives.
CIMA:
Successful completion of CIMA's Professional Qualification will lead to the designation of Associate Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). The qualification is recognised worldwide as the most relevant global finance qualification for a career in business.
Management Accounting combines accounting, finance and management with the business skills and techniques you'll need to add real value. Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMAs) are qualified to work across businesses, not just in finance, advising managers on the financial implications of big decisions, formulating business strategy and monitoring risk.
Primary Responsibilities

- Assist in coordinating the monthly forecast operating reviews, in partnership with key business, finance and accounting stakeholders; develop key insights across the forecasts and scenarios
- Support the monthly close process, including accruals and continuous training to business partners
- Coordinate the corporate planning activities with various business leaders
- Support the long-range Planning and Budget processes
- Collecting, analysing and reviewing quantitative data and creating meaningful reports to drive business improvement and root cause analysis
- Identify and actively participate in process improvement projects and ad hoc analyses as requested
- Ownership of elements of the US GAAP general ledger month-end close including accruals and prepayment accounting
- Monthly preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations, P&L and month-end journals
- Complete key control activities for the accounting function and assist with ongoing enhancements
