Dental Clinical Fellow Scheme (Leadership/Management Fellows) 2021/2022

(Entry level Dental ST1+)

To commence: 2nd August 2021

Duration: 12 months

Health Education England - working across the north east and north Cumbria, working in partnership with the North East's Lead Employer Trust (NE LET), is delighted to offer a dental clinical fellow scheme to enthusiastic and motivated specialty trainees with an interest in leadership, management or clinical informatics and those who are interested in learning more about these areas.

The north east and north Cumbria has high standards of postgraduate dental training, as defined by trainee feedback and results of the GDC survey and is committed to enhancing the training and educational experiences available for dentists in training.

Clinical Fellows will work to an apprenticeship model to the Postgraduate Dental Dean and other senior personnel across the region. The scheme will offer experience and opportunities to develop a range of valuable skills whilst leading or participating in key work streams that address local challenges including: recruitment, retention, clinical networks, trainee engagement, policy development, professionalism and teaching and quality improvement. The programme offers trainees the opportunity to have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, and education and training, and work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations.

Successful candidates will be given a comprehensive induction programme which aims to prepare fellows for their year ahead. In addition to the induction programme, there will be funding and study leave to undertake a relevant postgraduate qualification which could be a Postgraduate Certificate or Masters in Leadership. Clinical Fellows will be expected to deliver a substantial project within the year and also be encouraged to work collaboratively on projects with colleagues throughout the region and nationally and to share learning with other regions and organisations. The programme offers flexible opportunities to develop a portfolio of skills and experience that will benefit future consultant / GDP posts and leadership roles and build a profile as a future clinical leader. This scheme will suit trainees who are willing to work in uncertain environments across traditional boundaries and relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives.
