Over time, you'll take on more responsibility and accountability as your skills, knowledge and expertise increases.

This is a fantastic challenge for any student to enter the world of Siemens medical devices and understand the world of manufacturing in accordance to FDA regulations. This apprenticeship will allow the candidate to work with the Production Engineering team to not only develop basic core skills but also develop the understanding on PLC's, software and digitalisation across all Siemens Sudbury facilities and have a good understanding of all aspects of company departments.

You'll need to be available to begin this apprenticeship inSeptember 2021and will complete a 2-yearLevel 4Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture.Suitable candidates may be supported to progress onto the Engineering Manufacturing Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.

Your mission and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manufacturing engineering manager you will be expected to:
  • Understand and follow the sites Ergonomic, Health and Safety policy
  • Understand and demonstrate Lean/continuous improvement actions and participate in Kaizen events for the site delivering sustainable savings
  • Understand and demonstrate Siemens Quality Policy and systems how to write CAPA's and IR's in the event of a non-conformance
  • Learn and develop an understanding of key departments within Siemens and develop a broad range of essential skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrate how to fault find, repair and make available processes or product identified during manufacturing verification processes
  • Understand and demonstrate how to manufacture products
  • Understand and explain how products function
  • Support the introduction of all new instruments, processes and capital equipment
  • Support the introduction of any new process improvements such as digital advances
  • Participate in maintenance and calibration activities
  • Understand and demonstrate how to project manage a project to completion
  • Understand and demonstrate how to create new procedures for manufacturing processes or validation

You will have the ability to develop your business competences and functional knowledge including:
  • Learn how to lead a meeting and develop project management skills
  • Develop an understanding of electrical/mechanical drawings and use a voltmeter
  • Maintain quality awareness
  • Understand how to correctly use tools for repairs
  • Gain drawing knowledge and develop how to read and understand technical drawings

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Be a confident communicator across all levels as well as take initiative for tasks
  • An Electrical/Mechanical background would be advantageous

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in digitalisation
  • Enjoys collaborating and can work effectively in teams to find innovative solutions
  • You can work independently, safely and responsibly; take ownership of challenges and ideas and are looking to develop your ability to drive and lead change


Desired qualifications

You must have:
  • Minimum of five GCSEs at A*-C+/9 - 5 (or equivalent) including Maths and English
  • Educated to A Level standard B grade or equivalent NVQ/BTEC or HNC
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)


Future prospects

On completion, the apprentice will receive Professional Engineering Institution status 'EngTech'. Suitable candidates will have the option to be supported to progress on to the Engineering Manufacturing Degree Apprenticeship Level 6, which includes Higher National Diploma L5, BEng Honours L6.
