We are an integrated provider with a full range of adult, elderly and children's services across medical and surgical disciplines including community 0-19 yr old services in Enfield. Our specialist services include stroke, HIV/AIDS, cardiology, haematology, diabetes, fertility and orthopaedics. Our sickle cell and thalassaemia department is nationally recognised as a leading centre for these diseases. Every day, on average, we see 500 patients in A&E; 15 babies are born in our maternity unit; about 450 inpatients are cared for on our wards; about 50 patients have major or minor surgery in one of our 10 operating theatres; and about 800 people attend our outpatients clinics.

At North Middlesex University Hospital, you'll find a team that truly believes in living our values in everything we do. We are caring, we are fair and we are open.

Locum Consultant in Rheumatology- 12 months FTC

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust

Full time 10 PA

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium sized District General Hospital based in Edmonton in Enfield, North London. We serve a diverse multicultural population largely from the London boroughs of Enfield and Haringey. Many of our patients live in wards that are within the 5% most deprived in the UK and a large proportion of our patients were born abroad. This makes it both a fascinating and a challenging hospital to work in.

Over the last decade we have rebuilt almost all of the hospital and now have facilities that we are proud to work in. We employ over 3,500 staff, more than half of whom live locally. We encourage apprenticeships from the local community and work closely with our local Health Watch.

We are primarily an emergency led hospital with more than 90% of our bed days being used for patients admitted via our emergency and ambulatory units. As well as offering everything you would expect from a major acute hospital we have a number of tertiary services treating patients with HIV and Sickle Cell Disease and a large cancer and radiotherapy service. We also run our local community Sexual Health Clinics.

Applicants are invited to apply for the full-time (10 PAs) post of Locum Consultant in Rheumatology.

Applications for part-time working will also be considered.

This is a pure rheumatology post for a fixed-term of 6 months to help cover the sickness absence of one of the consultants in the department. We do potentially envisage that this post will become substantive on a part-time of full-time basis due to the increasing demands on the service.

The Department of Rheumatology is a dynamic, innovative and forward thinking department delivering a range of rheumatology services within the division of Medicine and Urgent care. We provide specialist clinics in Early Inflammatory Arthritis and Bone Health. We have a large cohort of SLE/CTD patients and we see complex inflammatory pathology on a regular basis as inpatient referrals.

The post holder will look to provide 5 outpatient clinics per week which will be a mix of Face to Face and Telephone Clinics. 1 Virtual clinic per week is also time-tabled. The candidate will also provide inpatient support to the wards and acute medical teams with regards to rheumatology referrals. We will look to fully support and encourage the development of any sub-speciality interest that the candidate may have.

The department welcomes applications from candidates with a wide experience in all aspects of rheumatology, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent. Applicants should also have experience in the day to day organisation of rheumatology services in a busy district general hospital, experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and of research. Successful candidates will possess CCT or be eligible to apply for a Consultant position pending completion of CCT and must be fully registered with the GMC.
