We have an exciting opportunity to join our commercial team, working towards a qualification in quantity surveying. Quantity surveyors look after the financial side of a construction project.
The commercial team play an important role in ensuring we are working within our budgets, ensure our sub-contractors are paid in accordance with contracts and legal obligations, they procure the materials and off-site services required to complete a construction project and provide cost valuation information to the business.
Quantity surveyors are required to work on live construction sites, managing budgets, costs, invoices, negotiating with sub-contractors, dealing with contracts and matters of contract law.
This position will be based within our Building Division, South West and Wales Region. The successful candidate will initially be based on our project in Swindon, however upon completion of this project you will then be based on a project elsewhere within the Region. Therefore, a flexible approach to location is required.

Future prospects
Apprentices who are progressing well during the apprentice, may be promoted to an assistant quantity surveyor level, which includes a pay increase and a company car, usually around their 3rd year.
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will have achieved a BSc Hons in Quantity Surveying and be a chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. There are clear career pathways for progressing within the commercial team, as well as further training opportunities.

- Develop an understanding of cost control
- Develop an understanding of programming and sequencing
- To assist with sub-contract administration
- To support project close out and archiving of accounts
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
- Being able to drive would be an advantage (this is desirable but not essential)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate
Personal qualities
- Able to successfully balance working and studying
- Able to work to deadlines and prioritise
- Keen to develop and learn about the construction industry
- High levels of self-motivation and commitment
- Flexible attitude towards work location as due to the project driven nature of our business there will be a requirement to work on multiple sites
Desired qualifications
- Minimum 112 UCAS points
- A Levels BBC or above (preferably including a maths or science)
- BTEC level 3 Diploma
Equivalent alternative qualifications to those listed will also be considered.
