About the Apprenticeship

A Level 4 Apprenticeship provides a way to access higher education while gaining valuable experience in the workplace. The apprenticeship comprises of both paid work and study, allowing you to earn while working towards a Software Developer qualification, funded by Arm. Your on-the-job learning is supported by a dedicated mentor at Arm and academic support from our training provider. Together, we will work with the latest Arm technology on a variety of exciting projects.

Our apprenticeship program is crafted to meet the relevant Apprenticeship Standard and is expected to take two years to complete. The apprenticeship will be completed by passing an external assessment at the end of the program. Apprenticeship positions are available across our Software Engineering groups.

Our software supports a whole ecosystem, from embedded firmware through operating system kernels, compilers, libraries, developer tools, applications, Networking, DevOps, Lab maintenance, and web technologies. We work in the open-source community, build tools to support our internal processes and create commercial software products.

Job Requirements

We are looking for candidates with the following skills, experience and qualifications:

 

  • Minimum Grade C in GCSE Maths and D in English
  • One of the below qualifications:
    • Level 3 Software apprenticeship
    • Maths or any Tech/IT related A Level
    • BTEC Extended Diploma in IT
    • Experience in a relevant role
  • A keen interest in Software development and/or electronics. i.e. via hobbies or personal projects, operating systems, building computers, applications or electronic projects
  • Good communication skills: listening, understanding and persuading
  • The ability to effectively work alone as well as in a team
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years

The desired skills and experience for this role:

These will vary depending on which team you will join.
 

  • Perl, Python or another scripting language
  • High-level programming experience such as C/C++
  • Experience tinkering with electronic devices such as smartphones, development boards (e.g. Raspberry Pi)
  • Familiarity of Unix/Linux working environment
