About the apprenticeship

Duties

Overall purpose of the job:
To stitch garments as instructed, working with the bundling process as well as the sampling process when required.

Industrial machinery mechanics and maintenance workers are responsible for repairing factory equipment and other industrial machinery, such as metal detecting systems, production machinery, and pressing equipment. Will expect you to be able to install, dismantle, repair, reassemble, service and move machinery.

Key (Major) Responsibilities:
Stitch fabrics together to construct garments.
Be able to identify the correct machine settings required for different fabrics and styles.
Maintain an inventory of tools and supplies.
Resolve and amend faults and imperfections when required.
Be flexible to stitching different processes on a day-to-day basis.
Follow instructions given from supervisors and factory managers.
Carry out basic maintenance on your machine.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Inform supervisors immediately of any broken machinery and if required collect all parts in a safely manner (i.e needle parts).
Strive to maintain a ‘Right first time' record.

Other requirements

To contribute to Quality Control checks and packaging when required.

Wear protective clothing (i.e closed toe shoes) and have hair tied back at all times.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Read technical manuals to understand equipment and controls
• Disassemble machinery and equipment when there is a problem
• Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components
• Perform tests and run initial batches to make sure that the machine is running smoothly
• Adjust and calibrate equipment and machinery to optimal specifications
• Detect minor problems by performing basic diagnostic tests
• Clean and lubricate equipment or machinery
• Check the performance of machinery
• Test malfunctioning machinery to determine whether major repairs are needed
• Adjust equipment and reset or calibrate sensors and controls
• Install or repair machinery and equipment
• Adjust and align machine parts
• Replace defective parts of machinery as needed
• Take apart existing machinery to clear floor space for new machinery
• Move machinery and equipment
• Maintain machines in accordance with SMETA, Fast Forward and HSE audits
• Train staff to use all machines safely in accordance with Fashion Enter's Health and Safety Policy
• Undertake six monthly running maintenance checks and update service records attached to each machine
• Itemise all machines by serial number and add to asset register

Qualifications

Apprentices without English and mathematics at level 1 must achieve this level and apprentices without level 2 English and mathematics must take the tests for level 2 prior to taking their EPA. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. British Sign Language qualification is an alternative to English qualifications for those whom this is their primary language.
