About our Trust

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is a newly formed organisation following a merger between Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHFT) and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust (BSUH) on 1st April 2021. WSHFT and BSUH have been working in partnership with a shared leadership team for four years leading up to the recent merger. Our vision (Excellent care, every time - "Where better never stops") is at the heart of all that that we do - we pride ourselves in putting the compassionate care of patients first and foremost. WSHFT became the first non-specialist acute hospital trust to be awarded Outstanding in all of the CQC's key inspection areas and BSUH became the fastest improving acute hospital trust in England and was rated Good overall and Outstanding for caring by the CQC. Moving forward together, the ambition is to continue improving and providing excellent care, every time, for patients.

The merger was a technical but important process for both WSHFT and BSUH which will ensure that the right leadership, structures, and governance are in place. Our journey has started but we have much still to learn as we work towards full merger, enabled by our Patient First ethos which shapes our values and gives structure to our improvement and performance management. Our shared sense of purpose, commitment to investing in and developing our workforce and focus on continuous improvement in the pursuit of excellent care, every time, for our patients underpins all that we do. The largest part of this journey is investing in staff and creating a vibrant and supportive organisation where successful careers flourish.

Due to movement within the team an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Higher Level Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly team in Pharmacy Aseptics at St Richards Hospital.

Our Aseptic team comprises of Pharmacists, technicians, assistants and apprentices providing a chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody and immunotherapy within Western Sussex. As part of this team you will be able to work with a variety of people providing an outstanding service to the Trust ensuring prompt and efficient production and supply of chemotherapy.

The chemotherapy production units at Western Sussex provide around 2000 chemotherapy doses to patients at Worthing and St Richard's Hospitals per month. We have 2 busy units, led by a great pharmacy team who provide a safe, efficient and effective service to Cancer Services and other teams within the Trust.

Ideally, you will have experience of all types of aseptic dispensing, including clinical trials. You will be responsible for the smooth, day to day running of the unit by ensuring the correct skill mix is in place, ordering in from compounding units as well as participating on the rota to make, volume check and in-process check chemotherapy and to supervise Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants and Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians.

You will need to be willing to complete the Pre and In Process Checking accreditation if you do not already have it.

You will also undertake weekend and late night dispensing activities within our modern automated, dispensary area. In this role you will be responsible for providing an accurate and efficient service in the dispensary and on wards including supporting the dispensing of inpatient medication, outpatient prescriptions and TTO's.

It is essential that you have a BTEC National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science and the NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Standards or equivalent qualification. You MUST also be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council to apply for this post.
