Epidemiological scientist for a Wales Healthcare Epidemiology Network

As part of a wider investment in health protection and microbiology, Public Health Wales is recruiting for an Epidemiological Scientist to join the Wales Healthcare Epidemiology Network. This is a fixed term post to 30/11/2021 based in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, to support the existing healthcare epidemiologist in outbreak investigations and surveillance of COVID-19 and other common healthcare associated infections. This is an opportunity to develop healthcare epidemiology as a service and speciality, with a particular impact on the populations accessing healthcare in Wales.

The post will be line managed and supported through the Public Health Wales Healthcare Associated infection and Antimicrobial Resistance Programme (HARP) and the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre (CDSC), but will be based in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board to address needs in the hospital and community. Work plans and priorities will be set by the health board in conjunction with Public Health Wales.

The postholder will use their epidemiological and data management skills to streamline and improve surveillance in Health Boards and related national surveillance systems, including the ICNet system for hospital infection surveillance and management, and to interpret surveillance outputs to make public health recommendations. Their field epidemiology skills will be employed in gathering, organising and analysing information on clusters and outbreaks to support outbreak management.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
