Trainee Healthcare Science Practitioner

Do you have an interest in science and think you would like to work with patients in Nuclear Medicine?

We are looking for a someone to join the Nuclear Medicine team as a trainee technologist. The Nuclear Medicine department offers a range of services to patients including a comprehensive diagnostic service, molecular radiotherapy treatments, and we also run the Pan Trust Radiopharmacy, where we manufacture the radioactive products required for the day.

During the training, you will complete a degree at University of West of England (UWE) as part of a level 6 apprenticeship resulting in a B.Sc. (Hons) in Healthcare Science (degree apprenticeship). The practical work will be completed at Lincoln County Hospital with attendance at UWE for only a few weeks per year. The training is for a three year period starting September 2021 to August 2024.

About the Department

Nuclear Medicine is based on 3 of the Trust's sites; Grantham District Hospital; Pilgrim Hospital Boston and Lincoln County Hospital.

Nuclear Medicine imaging uses small amounts of radioactive tracers to diagnose, evaluate or treat a variety of diseases. These include many types of cancer, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine or neurological disorders and other conditions.

The radiotracers are generally injected, inhaled or ingested depending on the examination required.

Staffing in Nuclear Medicine is a mix of physicists, clinical technologists, nurses and clerical staff working as a multidisciplinary team. The equipment includes a SPECT/CT gamma camera, dedicated cardiac gamma camera, Wizard sample counter, a state-of-the-art radiopharmacy.

What we're looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to learn, and possesses the qualifications suitable to enrol with UWE for the Healthcare Science degree apprenticeship course in Nuclear Medicine.

Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate an aptitude for science and excellent communication skills in this patient facing discipline. They must be able to commence the role from 31st August, in order to meet the University's course dates. Please refer to the person specification in the Job Description for qualifications required.

Candidates MUST be able to commence in post from 31st August 2021.
