Luxfer MEL Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Zirconium and Magnesium based products and services to technology industries worldwide.

Based in our Manchester facility you will work for Luxfer MEL Technologies as part of the Materials QC Department team which has scientists located in both the US and UK.

The main purpose of the role is to perform - in a timely manner and with a high degree of accuracy and precision - a wide range of analytical tests on both In-Process and Final Product material against defined specifications to meet the needs of both our internal and external customers.

While you work as part of the time you will also work towards your BSc in Chemical Science through apprenticeship program at Manchester university. This will involve 1 day a week online learning on academic studies and occasional residential units at the university.

Main responsibilities:

Conduct precise and accurate routine analytical testing on Incoming Raw Materials, In-Process Control samples and Final Product material following a wide range of established standard operating procedures and involving both the use of traditional chemistry techniques and the use of a wide variety of analytical instrumentation (for example XRF, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IC, Particle Size, Surface Area and Porosity instruments).

Desired qualifications

All prerequisites required by MMU to be accepted on the Laboratory Science Degree Apprenticeship. (A level Chemistry, 104 UCAS points (or equivalent) andGCSEs at grades C/4 or above(or equivalent) in maths and English Language.

In addition, LMT requirements: 3 A levels including Chemistry, and maths (or equivalent).

Future prospects

Fully funded apprenticeship working within a great team, on the job learning and in-house training. Develop the skills and experience to proceed to a permanent role within the company with further ongoing development to enable the candidates to succeed.
