Apprentice Clinical Support Worker

We are recruiting motivated, caring and compassionate individuals for the role of Apprentice Clinical Support Worker for our Adult clinical areas.

This full-time (37.5 hours per week) apprenticeship is undertaken within a fifteen month fixed-term contract, and provides an ideal opportunity to begin your healthcare career at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

You will be required to work a combination of shifts as well as regular study days. Typical shift start times are:

Early 7am

Late 12pm

Long Day 7am

Nights 7.30pm

The apprenticeship is delivered In collaboration between the Trust and an education provider. On successful completion of coursework and practical assessments, you will receive a Level 2 apprentiship in Clinical Healthcare Support plus a level 1 qualification in maths and english if you do not already hold this. You will also be required to undertake the full care certificate within your first month ( If you already hold the care certificate you will need to undertake a competency assessment only).

On successful completion of the programme you can progress to a permanent band 2 Clinical Support Worker position within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. From here we offer supported on-going learning with an opportunity for career progression.

Successful applicants will work as team members in their allocated ward, unit or department giving direct hands-on care to patients, and will attend timetabled study sessions, including days, twilights, nights and weekends, as appropriate to your clinical area.

We have a number of start dates throughout the year and you could spend your 15 month placement at any one of our Trust sites: Leeds General Infirmary, St.James's University Hospital, Chapel Allerton Hospital, Seacroft Hospital or Wharfedale Hospital.

If your application is shortlisted you will be asked to complete an online assessment in Literacy & Numeracy, those candidates who achieve the required level will be invited to attend an Apprentice Clinical Support Worker Assessment Centre.

There are three stages to the Assessment process for this role. The first is the Maths and English which takes place at Leeds City College between 10th to the 12th May 2021. Please login to your NHS jobs account and confirm attendance and you will be allocated a time slot.

We require you to demonstrate the potential to achieve Functional skills Level 1 in Maths and English.

If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited to a presentation held on Zoom on 25th May 2021. At this presentation we will answer any questions about the apprenticeship and the role within the hospital.

You will also be invited to your assessment day on 26th May 2021 where you will complete a scenario task and meet an interview panel. Please login to your NHS jobs account and confirm attendance and you will be allocated a time slot.

In order to comply with safeguarding legislation, candidates must be at least 18 years of age on the assessment day (you will be asked to provide evidence of this at the time of interview). There is no upper age limit.

Candidates who are not an EEA citizen must have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.

If you are offered a position, you may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
