Band 4 Assistant Practitioner - full time post

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in Dermatology Outpatients with a dynamic group of nurses and doctors that positively push the boundaries of nursing practice. We have an excellent track record of developing and training registered and non-registered nurses to a high level. We are looking for a full time band 4 assistant practitioner with a passion to learn and develop, it is essential that you have an interest in Dermatology and its complexities. The post holder will be expected to have successfully completed or be undertaking a validated programme of academic study such as a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care and/or Higher Apprenticeship or hold an equivalent or higher relevant professional qualification.

The successful candidate will work in a wide range of Dermatology clinics and day case activity. As a department we offer multiple clinics with a variety of dermatology diseases, with focus on both acute and chronic disease management of the dermatology patient. This includes skin conditions such as skin cancer, leg ulcers, psoriasis, eczema, acne as well as more complex dermatological conditions. Skills required for this role include assessing patients and initiating treatment plans, as well as patient and junior staff education. Assistant practitioners will be trained to support allergy clinics including undertaking patch and skin prick testing, as well as working in the dermatology procedure suite and gaining competence in venepuncture. The role will include nurse related administrative duties including managing procurement.

As training will be provided, newly qualified assistant practitioners who are new to the Dermatology specialty will be considered. As a team we endeavour to support assistant practitioners to learn and develop their knowledge and skills, so that learning and development needs are satisfied and staff feel confident in their role.

We work in a friendly team orientated environment and have good working relationships with multidisciplinary team members. Working hours will be 37.5 hours per week (full time) with no weekends, bank holidays or night duty. Shift patterns will be agreed upon start of appointment in order to meet service needs.

The Assistant Practitioner will be required to undertake skin prick testing which is an essential part of the allergy clinics. To monitor patients and manage any signs of anaphylaxis thereby contributing significantly to patient safety
