Manufacturing Engineers primarily support the activities involved in bringing design programmes into manufacture. This role is pivotal to the launch planning and smooth delivery of exciting new products or product refresh programmes. The focus is on the advanced manufacturing techniques and project management skills required to launch products on time, on cost and to the right quality. Typically Manufacturing Engineers work closely with a range of other engineers, functions and managers both within their own company and supplier base.

The apprenticeship degree will provide learning in the following areas:
  • Programming, installation, and maintenance of the automated machinery (Computer-assisted process and control engineering) ensuring efficient use energy
  • Overseeing the flow of raw materials into a factory and through the production lines (Enterprise resource planning) ensuring product quality, reliability and output levels
  • Logistic solutions to inventory or to the customer's site (Environmental protection, safety, and handling of hazardous materials)

Desired qualifications

5 GCSEs including maths and English and a science, technology or engineering related subject at grade 4/C and either :-

  • 88 UCAS points including at least 2 A Levels with one either beingMaths, Physics or Engineering.

or
  • 90credits or more from a Level 3 Engineering BTEC

or
  • Completion of Level3 EngineeringStandard Apprenticeship


Future prospects

There is the scope within the business to progress into either the engineering, production or logistics teams.

Things to consider

A large percentage of work in the first two years will be within the production department learning the skills to read drawings, build production units, test and document processes, use manufacturing machinery.

The majority of work will be undertaken at the head office in Rochester. There may be some requirement for overtime. Working day is 8.30am - 5pm

The 3 year degree programme is delivered Collaboratory between both MidKent College and Canterbury Christchurch University. With deliverybeing shared, the first 18 months of the degree are studied at MidKent College, Maidstone Campus. The second 18 months of the degree are studied at Canterbury Christchurch University from their Canterbury Campus.
