About the apprenticeship

Duties

Here's an overview of the main duties of the post:
• Assist both engineering and technical staff with the completion of projects including a range of technical and administrative design office duties
• Complete Infrastructure Projects
• Develop an understanding of bridge designs, inspections and management and support structures

Additional information

• The job is based in Caernarfon.
• The successful apprentice will be required to demonstrate the ability to communicate bilingually from the outset. We are prepared to consider applications from Welsh speakers who may not meet the above requirements immediately, but are willing to commit to reaching them.

Qualifications

Qualified to at least level 2 meeting the following requirements:
Either:
• 4 GCSEs grade D or above
• Corresponding Level 2 vocational qualification (e.g. BTEC First Level 2 Diploma Merit or above)

For your information, any combinatinon of qualifications with an equivalent grade will be acceptable.

Ymgynghoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy (YGC) is a multidisciplinary consultancy established by Gwynedd Council in 1996. We are the largest local authority run consultancy in Wales, working with an extensive and varied list of clients in both the public and private sectors.
YGC currently employs 120 members of staff with offices in Caernarfon, Dolgellau, and Pwllheli with annual turnover of circa £5.5 million.
YGC has been responsible for the design and delivery of a number of key projects on some of the region's minor and major highways. We offer a range of bespoke environmental engineering, flooding and coastal defence services to complement our project delivery capabilities.
You will receive the opportunity to be part of a Civil Engineering Technical team within the Infrastructure Design and Transport field that will enable you to work with specialists in Structures and Design. You will get the chance to realise infrastructure plans as part of the project team, be part of a transport team, and work with specialists in geotechnical work.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
