As a defence and aerospace company we develop products which must perform reliably whilst operating in very challenging environments so we rely on skills engineers to design safe and functioning systems. Embedded electronics are a critical element of our products as we rely on the ability to sense, analyse and act quickly to deliver the end effect to users.

We are looking for motivated individuals who are not afraid of hard work and want to work in a challenging business. In return we will support your development through the apprenticeship and beyond as you become a fully fledged engineer within our team.

As an Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer Apprentice, you will join a growing team in our modern Cheltenham offices, and with the support of highly qualified and experienced engineers from all disciplines be engaged in a series of programmes and activities.

Duties will include:
  • We undertake design, development, testing and manufacturing on site so during the apprenticeship we will give you a chance to work in each of these areas to understand how they fit together to make and deliver electronics products
  • Over the course of the apprenticeship you will develop your design and analysis skills to design functional electronic systems and circuits from component level, write embedded software code and mathematically model the systems.
  • You will work with our experienced engineering team and become familiar with working to industry standards as well as gaining feedback through peer review
  • At the end of the apprenticeship you will become an Engineer grade employee on the same level as any other graduate with a degree in Embedded Electronics

Desired qualifications

Minimum Tariff Points 112

5 GCSEs grade C/4 or above as well as 3 A Levels at grade C or above in engineering related subjects (maths, science, technology etc) or 90+ credits in an engineering BTEC at Level 3.

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will become a full time Electronics Engineer within our design and development team.

Things to consider

Ultra is a global company and whilst you will be based in Cheltenham you may be asked to travel to other business and supplier sites.You will also need to travel to UWE as part of the apprenticeship so please consider how you will do this.
