The Cygnet Occupational Therapy Department recognise not all Occupational Therapists qualifying at present may have had the direct experience due to the national placement crisis. We offer we offer a graded approach to caseload management, have robust supervision support and have our own preceptorship process for all newly qualified OTs to consolidate core skills.

Post: (Band 5 equivalent) Occupational Therapist

Base: Cygnet Wyke: Phoenix Ward

Responsible for:
  • 19 patients within 1 PICU ward
  • X2 Activity Coordinators

Responsible to: Regional Lead OT (Band 7)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Location: Blankney Grange, Huddersfield Road, Wyke, Bradford, BD12 8LR

Overview of site/Ward:

Phoenix Ward is an acute service that can support up to 19 men in a therapeutic and calming setting. The service is an emergency admission ward that aims to work with service users with a broad range of mental health problems. The team works closely and collaboratively with service users, their family and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway.

Phoenix Ward's ethos is about caring for our service users and treating people in the least restrictive environment. A range of interventions are utilised including a mental and physical health assessment, risk assessment, care planning using the My Shared Pathway approach, medication review, medication-free assessments and health management strategies to prevent relapse.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide direct clinical care which will encompass OT assessments, treatment and management of service users within the service. In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to service user's diagnosis and identified needs. This will be based upon findings from assessments including associated risks, in order to develop treatment plans accordingly within the multidisciplinary team.

  • The Successful Candidate should be/have:
    • A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
    • Experienced in the field of mental health desired
    • An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a "hands on" approach
    • Excellent communication and time management skills
    • Passionate about student education

    Requirements
