Post:(Band 6 equivalent) Specialist Occupational Therapist

Base:Cygnet Hospital Bury - Adult Secure Services

Responsible for:
  • Managing a caseload of up to 13 service users with a range of mental health presentations, detained under the Mental Health Act in a secure setting
  • Ensuring Deaf patients are supported to access OT interventions through use of BSL interpreting services
  • Managing graduate OTs, an OT Assistant and Activity coordinators

Responsible to:Highly Specialist OT (Band 7 equivalent)

Hours:40 hours per week. Mon to Fri

With over 150 OTs in the company, we also work together as a large team providing support to each other across the group, with various specialist interest groups to tap into, including Mental Health, Neuropsychiatry, Autism, Learning Disabilities and Sensory Integration, to name a few.

Overview of site/Ward:

Cygnet Hospital Bury is the largest hospital in the Cygnet group across the UK. We have 14 wards across 3 buildings. One building is a CAMHS service the other two offer a range of Medium Secure, Low Secure and PICU environments. We have a newly arisen vacancy for an experienced OT to work on one of our Low Secure wards for men. The patient group have mixed communication abilities with some being profoundly Deaf and needing clinical interventions delivering in partnership with our BSL interpreting service.
In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to service user's diagnosis and identified needs. This will be based upon findings from assessments including associated risks, in order to develop treatment plans accordingly.
Prioritisation skills are key to manage the caseload of clients effectively and you will work closely with the Occupational Therapy and multidisciplinary team onsite.

  • The Successful Candidate should be/have:
    • A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
    • Experience in the field of adult mental health and in environments that manage challenging behaviours
    • An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a "hands on" approach quickly after taking on the role
    • Excellent communication and time management skills
    • A willingness to learn new ways to communicate with people who experience hearing loss and Deafness
    • An ability to manage highly demanding clinical presentations
    • A passion for student education

    Requirements:
    The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
