About the apprenticeship


The Highways and Municipal Department looks after assets and provides important services to ensure a clean and safe environment for the residents of Gwynedd. They are responsible for highway maintenance, street lighting, street cleaning, and waste collection and recycling.
We are looking for an individual with an interest in highway lighting who is ready to learn and develop his / her skills while working. We are also looking for an individual who can communicate with confidence, work as part of a team, and demonstrate their potential to succeed as an apprentice.

Here's an overview of the main duties of the post:
• Carry out electrical work associated with the installation and maintenance of lighting columns, signs and any other street furniture.
• Operate electrical work associated with the maintenance of periodic scheduled lighting columns, signage and any other (large) street furniture.
• Assist with the inspection and testing of the lighting columns, signs and street furniture in circulation.
• Complete certificate / test forms to the required standard.
• Ability to work alone with supervision.
• Undertake night supervision as and when required (weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc)
• Be familiar with health and safety regulations and departmental policies etc.
• Ensure use of P.P.E. when working and keeping them correctly when not in use.
• Willingness to undertake all training required to enable the work to be completed safely and to an acceptable standard.

Additional information

• One job is based in Cwm y Glo and the other in Dolgellau.
• The successful apprentice will be required to demonstrate the ability to communicate bilingually from the outset. We are prepared to consider applications from Welsh speakers who may not meet the above requirements immediately, but are willing to commit to reaching them.

Qualified to at least level 2 meeting the following requirements:
• 4 GCSEs grade D or above
• Corresponding Level 2 vocational qualification (e.g. BTEC First Level 2 Diploma Merit or above)

For your information, any combinatinon of qualifications with an equivalent grade will be acceptable.
