At York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, patient care is at the heart of all that we do.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to support in the delivery of excellent patient care on Ward 29. Ward 29 is usually an Elective Orthopaedic and Breast ward with 23 beds. The ward promotes Enhanced Recovery with a high patient turnover and also acts as a step down unit for trauma patients.

However, currently Ward 29 has been the designated COVID-19 positive ward, for the duration of the pandemic.

During the summer months ward 29 will be used as a surgical ward while COVID 19 number remain low. If there is a surge in COVID 19 patients ward 29 will turn back in to a positive ward.

The successful applicant will have a unique opportunity to develop their leadership skills under circumstances that change on a daily basis while caring for potentially critically ill patients COVID patients in the winter months and surgical patients in the summer months.

The successful applicant must be dynamic, enthusiastic, forward thinking and ready to broaden their knowledge and leadership skills. You will support the Charge Nurse to lead and to further enhance the team and patient care on ward 29. Focus will be on patient experience, patient safety and providing assurance that standards are met for every patient, every time. The candidates must be ready for a new challenge, have sound clinical knowledge and skills and be ready to take on the leadership role. We are a positive, friendly and supportive team and will welcome you and assist in your development within the role.

If you are enthusiastic about patient centred care, have an interest in pre and post-operative management, possess excellent communication skills and are passionate about motivating and inspiring others you may well be the perfect candidate to assist in leading our team.

DBS Checks - All new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. The charges are currently £27.20 for a standard check and £44.20 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. Please note that Volunteers and Bank only staff will not be charged.
