From day one you will be embedded in a team solving real world problems. You will get to work and collaborate with people in Caterpillar facilities worldwide. Your working week will also include time to study that will either be located at our Stafford facility or at the facility of our partnered training provider allowing you to network and share experiences with other students further enhancing your learning.

Duties will include:

  • Preparing and using lathes, milling and other general or specialist high tech equipment
  • Applying mechanical, electrical and electronic devices and equipment
  • Using computer software packages to assist with engineering activities
  • Producing and managing engineering project plans

During the development stage they would hone and deepen their general engineering skills in there specialist areas and also may undergo placements in relevant supportive functions to provide breadth of experience. With all of these skills, they will be using a well-planned logical and systematic approach. On successful completion of the above, the apprentice will then progress to develop their skills in:

Test:
  • Take a design engineer's concept and put it to work to collect data, verify performance, and contribute to design enhancements. Our test engineers "play" in both the lab and field environments (giant sandbox, anyone?) and have access to advanced equipment and tools

Simulation:
  • Develop and apply advanced computational models to understand, verify, and improve the design of components, systems, products and processes
