Bolton NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2008 and, in 2011, we became an integrated provider with community health services joining the trust. Covering a catchment area that also incorporates parts of Bury, Wigan and Salford, we deliver hospital and community based services from the Royal Bolton Hospital in Farnworth and from 20 health centres across Bolton, to a catchment population of 320,000 people. We have a CQC rating as good overall and we have some key areas of outstanding practice with an outstanding rating for being well led at every level.

Buildings, names and models of care have changed over the centuries, but one thing has remained constant and is prevalent among our 5,900+ staff members: the enduring commitment to providing the best health and care for the people of Bolton.

Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician

We require an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to train as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician.

Applicants must possess a minimum of 4 GCSE's grade 9-4 or equivalent which must include Maths, English and 2 Science subjects (to include Chemistry) to meet the entry requirements for the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles & Practice for Pharmacy Technicians at Preston's college. (Dual or Triple Science including Chemistry is acceptable)

You will receive training in a wide range of pharmaceutical skills including the provision of pharmaceutical care to both In-patients and Out-patients. You will dispense prescriptions, undertake over the counter sales, provide counselling to patients on the use of their prescribed medication, and participate in services provided to the wards.

The successful candidate will attend Preston's College on a day release basis for two years. Protected study time for NVQ is allocated but a commitment to undertake study for the BTEC certificate in your own time is expected.

Completion of the course and successful achievement of both awards will enable you to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

This is an Advanced Apprenticeship scheme therefore funding for training can only be provided to those who do not hold a level 4 qualification or above i.e. a degree in any relevant Pharmacy related subject area. Any successful applicant with level 4 or above qualifications in a Pharmacy related subject would therefore need to self-fund the course.

This will be a 2 year fixed term contract from 1st September 2021 to 31st August 2023. Entry to the second year will be on successful completion of the first year.

Salary scale - Band 4 Appendix U (agenda for change)

37.5 hours per week worked over 7 days plus participation in late night rota and bank holiday working.
