Contract Type - Permanent

Hours - 37.5 hours per week

The Estates Department is looking to recruit a highly motivated Electrical Technician, to work as part of a multidisciplinary team based within York Teaching Hospital. The department provides management, development, maintenance, and operational support for the Trust's buildings and electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will be based at York, but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites.

You will be part of a team initially working day shifts, Monday to Friday, but also covering when necessary, often at short notice. There is a 24/7 shift rota, hence you must be flexible regarding the hours of duty, and will be expected to undertake appropriate training as part of the job role.

The successful candidate must be able to work co-operatively as part of a team, comprising of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance colleagues, and have demonstrable experience of working within a maintenance environment.

In addition, the successful candidate should be reliable, resilient, enthusiastic, motivated and be able to work under pressure with the minimum of supervision.

The successful candidate will be expected to transfer tools and equipment, at short notice, across the locality during a normal working day.

The successful candidate will have a good general knowledge of Electrical / Mechanical services and engineering maintenance, backed up by a BTEC, City and Guilds Craft Certificate or NVQ 3 qualification in an electrical engineering discipline, successfully completed a recognised Apprenticeship or equivalent certified training and at least 3 years post-apprenticeship experience, a good knowledge of electrical plant and associated equipment, heating and ventilation systems.

The role is critical to the Estates Department's maintenance support service, and is demanding and varied as it covers a range of engineering services. The role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning and maintenance of a range of engineering services, in the Trust's clinical and non-clinical facilities. It is a very busy directorate, and you will be part of a team that is constantly working to improve the quality and safety of the Trust's healthcare facilities.

DBS Checks - All new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. The charges are currently £27.20 for a standard check and £44.20 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. Please note that Volunteers and Bank only staff will not be charged.
