The Role:

Are you Dietitian who has a passion for providing excellence in the nutritional and dietetic care and would like to work in mental health Dietetics? If so, a locum position has arisen to work within our Specialist mental health dietetic team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop or further hone your nutrition and dietetic skills within mental health care.

Due to COVID-19 this post is currently delivered remotely via telephone or video consultation unless face to face is deemed appropriate.

In summary:

You must be an HCPC registered Dietitian.

This post is suitable for a Band 5 with one year plus post registration experience.

OR a band 6 with two years or more post registration experience.

We require at least 0.6 WTE and up to 1.0 WTE. A locum up to end April 2021 is sort in the first instance. However ideally we are looking for locum commitment up until end June 2021.

In this role all of the service users referred have a mental health diagnosis, although dietetically we are providing dietary treatment to support prevention and management of physical health conditions. Referrals are mostly for under-nutrition, underweight and re-feeding syndrome or over-nutrition and metabolic syndrome linked to mental ill health and psychiatric medications, especially antipsychotics.

The post is a mixture of delivering the SLaM weight management programme and general dietetic care in outpatient clinics to community SLaM patients. And providing an inpatient dietetic service to service users across the age range admitted to Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU), Acute and rehab wards as well as one mental health older adult community Special Care Unit.

Prior experience and understanding of mental health dietetics and use of motivational interviewing techniques and the stages of change to help support behavioural change are desirable. However, we are willing to support candidates who are keen to learn more within this interesting area of dietetics.

You will be well supported by regular one to one clinical supervision meetings with the manager of the service as well as ad hoc support from the wider dietetic team.
