What will the apprentice be doing?

Your role will be to provide administrative and logistical support to the Emerging Technology, Futures and Strategic Projects (EFP) team in the Government Office for Science.

The EFP team supports government to develop policies and strategies that are resilient to future challenges and opportunities.

This post therefore supports better policy making in government and involves working directly with a wide range of policy makers.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As an apprentice, you will undertake a Level 4 Policy Officer apprenticeship for the duration of 18 months. You will receive an allocation of 20% off the job learning time to complete the programme and will be a member of the BEIS Apprentice Network, which hosts regular events, networking and further development opportunities.

Apprenticeship workshops will currently take place virtually in line with Covid-19 Government guidelines.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Subject to completion of a six moth probation you will have access to opportunities to apply for progression within the Civil Service.

No previous policy experience is required, this apprenticeship will provide you with the necessary core skills, knowledge, and behaviours for working in a policy setting. A demonstrable interest in policy, or science and evidence in policy making is desirable but not essential.
