What is the GCS Apprenticeship all about?
Our 18-month apprenticeship combines work in one or more communications teams across the Government Communication Service with academic study.

The apprenticeship scheme aims to give you the knowledge, skills and experience you need to progress your career in communications and apply for a variety of roles across the Civil Service. The GCS will support you with career advice and coaching to help you on your journey.

- Running communications campaign using digital tools and social media to interest and engage people
- Creating government campaigns to encourage community participation
- Researching and analysing the needs of a variety of audiences

Desired qualifications
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
- 5 GCSE at grades 4-9 (A*-C) or equivalent including English, with a minimum GCSE Maths grade 3
- The equivalent of 2 A levels achieved by September 2021

Things to consider
Eligibility and Criteria:
- Be aged 16 or older
- Not be in full-time education

- Undertake only one apprenticeship at any one time
- Spend at least 20% of your employed time in 'off-the-job' learning
- Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check
- Successful candidates must meet the relevant security requirements for their department before they can be appointed
- Must not have a degree in a communication-related topic
