The Central Oxfordshire Older Adult Community Mental Health Team is looking to recruit a Nurse Associate Apprentice/ Trainee to join our team.

Initially, a 2 ½ year Apprenticeship training programme followed by the offer of a Band 4 Nursing Associate post on qualification.

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, well-motivated and experienced staff with an interest in working for community mental health services to apply for our 2 ½ year Apprenticeship Nursing Associate Programme, which we have developed in partnership with Bucks New University. On qualification, you will be able to register with the NMC as a Registered Nursing Associate. This apprenticeship will allow you to develop your skills and experience whilst providing excellent person-centred care. Entry requirements are:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as experience within a healthcare setting
  • GCSE Maths and English (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent functional /key skills Level 2 Maths and English or achievement on this programme
  • A level 3 qualification in a health-related subject or equivalent such as BTEC/A levels/Oversea qualifications

The Apprenticeship Programme is structured as follows:
  • 1 day per week at Bucks New University and 4 days in the clinical area working as a Trainee Nursing Associate
  • An alternative placement each year of 12 weeks
  • You will be expected to undertake some study in your own time

You will receive a Band 3 salary for the duration of the 2 ½ year programme and all apprenticeship fees are paid for by the Trust.

The training programme is due to commence in Autumn 2021 with posts to begin within the services from Spring 2021.

We are a friendly, supportive and proactive team where you will receive regular supervision as well as plenty of opportunities to develop your skills.

Our team covers the geographical area of Oxford City and North East Oxfordshire (Kidlington and Bicester). The MDT is made up of Medical, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Psychology colleagues and we highly regard one another's professional background and contribution to the care of our patients. We view supervision as fundamental to the functioning of the team both clinically and in terms of the wellbeing of our staff.

Core working hours for the Community Mental Health Team are Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00 with a duty team covering out of hours Saturday and Sunday and evenings 5-8pm.

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
