What will the apprentice be doing?
The role of data analyst apprentice will be wide and varied and there will be a rotation around different parts of the health intelligence system, hosted by PHE's Local Knowledge and Intelligence Service. You will be analysing data and intelligence from various sources, working closely with PHE and its regional and local partners to inform strategies around health protection, health improvement, and tackling health inequalities with a particular focus on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will undertake a Data Science Degree at York St John University either their London or York campus. Data Science is a broad field spanning maths and statistics, software engineering and communications. Course modules can include Programming Concepts, Database Design, Web Development, Networking, Business Intelligence, Data Presentation and Visualisation, Statistical Methods, Software Engineering.
PHE reserves the right to reject applications on grounds of ESFA funding regulations.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Once you have completed the Level 6 apprenticeship there may be opportunities for career development and undertake a Masters in Digital Technologies, Analytics pathway or to move into another part of the organisation studying for a Masters in Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence or Public Health Intelligence.
Public Health England and the data analytics function is expected to transition into its successor organisation the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) or other receiving organisation.

Things to consider
Travel and overnight accommodation will be required when class based activity resumes for block release learning. All travel, accommodation and related expenses in relation to this will be funded by the employer.
