In both roles apprentices are responsible for the quality of their own work, whether this is on NWP overhead work or on customer deliverables.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Confirming their understanding of work to be delivered, i.e. ensuring there is a clear definition of work scope and verifying this with their manager or the assigner of the work
  • Maintenance of their own training log
  • Ensuring membership of a relevant professional body is maintained at the appropriate level e.g. "Associate" grade
  • Demonstrating a high level of commitment to their relevant academic studies and to completion of internal training modules in line with NWP's apprenticeship programme

Responsible for undertaking some of the responsibilities of a CAD Operator, Designer, or Engineer, under supervision, such as:
  • Assisting with the production of drawings and models, and input to engineering documentation
  • Assisting with design substantiation and scoping calculations
  • Participation in technical reviews and risk assessments
  • Production of design drawings in accordance with applicable design codes and standards
  • Support Engineers and Designers in the production of simple design scoping calculations to underpin key design elements
  • Production of supporting documentation such as operation & maintenance manuals, risk assessment & installation method statements
  • Provide support to Engineers and Designers in the sizing and selection of proprietary items.
  • Application of CAD operating systems, e.g. AutoCAD, Inventor etc.
  • Implement best practise in the company's quality management system
  • Reports to: Functionally - line manager (allocated Engineering Manager)
  • Day to day - the Lead Engineer on their project (Engineering Manager or Principal Engineer)

Desired qualifications

GCSEs at grades C/4 or above(or equivalent) in maths and English.

96 UCAS Points (or equivalent).

Minimum of Level 3 - C, C, C at A-level (or equivalent).

Future prospects

Subject to performance North West Projects will sponsor the candidate through a Degree qualification.

The company actively support the process of professional registration with institutions such as the IMechE/IET, although this is not mandatory.

Things to consider

Candidate must be able to commute to both the NWP premises at Chorley as well as the college.

Due to the sensitive nature of the work, any successful candidates will be provided with a basic security clearance check.
