We are seeking to recruit and train 6 Clinical Associate Psychologists in our Adult Mental Health Service. This is a new and very exciting development and we welcome this expansion of our existing team of ten psychological therapists. You are very welcome to apply if you have a degree in psychology and experience of mental health work, ideally within the NHS.

The role will include working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems. You will be trained to Master level by Exeter University to carry out the roles below. Once qualified, (the course will be 18 months) you will then be employed as a band 6. You will be supervised throughout the apprenticeship by Clinical Psychologists alongside other psychological therapy colleagues. You will be based in pairs for 4.5 months in one service area and then rotate.

Your time will be spent as follows:
  • One day a week at University (predominately remotely)
  • One day a week home study
  • Three days a week clinical work and supervision

Your key duties will be:
  • Co-facilitating partial DBT groups and stabilisation skills groups for people on our trauma pathway
  • Providing brief interventions including
  • Emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills
  • Mindfulness
  • Behavioural Activation
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Problem solving
  • Low intensity CBT for psychosis and mood disorders
  • Adapting interventions for people with cognitive or sensory impairments or Asperger's
  • Motivational Interviewing for dual diagnosis patients
  • Assisting qualified therapists with exposure work and behavioural experiments in community and domiciliary treatment, including supporting use of virtual reality for exposure
  • Teaching in the Recovery College.

The role will start in September 2021 and the Masters course will start October 2021.
